How your donation helps
Each Ruby Cup donation comes with an educational workshop on reproductive health, includes a thorough introduction on how to use a Ruby Cup (by trainers who use one themselves), and gives the girls access to a support network. That’s how we make sure they get the help they might need once they start using their Ruby Cup.
We have been working with local organisations since 2012 to help girls get sound education about their bodies and a Ruby Cup to help them manage their period in safety, privacy and with dignity.
Why Menstruation Matters
Many families in informal settlements live with less than one dollar a day. That means that they have to make the choice of either putting food on the table or buying menstrual products – at least once a month. Or resort to improvised period protection using old pieces of cloth, mattress stuffing or nothing at all.
This leaves more than half of the women and girls in Kenya’s informal settlements without access to menstrual products when they need them.
Going to school or work without proper menstrual care products leads to leaks, period stains, and feeling uncomfortable and ashamed.
A Ruby Cup can help girls who don’t have access to healthy menstrual care products become Champions of Menstruation and eliminate at least one of the many obstacles they face, so they can thrive in their community.
